| BLACK SABBATH Continue Recording New Studio Album; Photo Available BLACK SABBATH frontman OZZY OSBOURNE has checked in from the studio where he, bassist Geezer Butler and guitarist Tony Iommi are working on their first studio album since 1978's Never Say Die! Ozzy has posted this photo from the studio: In a recent chat with Nzherald.co.nz, Osbourne revealed that the band have "done about 15 songs" for their reunion album. "It's been more than 30 years since I really seriously worked with the guys," Ozzy says. "We had a try a few years back but nothing came of it. But for some reason the timing is right. Black Sabbath is very unique in the respect that nothing is formulated. It's very unpredictable. I just hope the people who have waited all these years aren't disappointed." "But we've done it all so what it boils down to now is the music," Ozzy continues. "And that's what got us where we are in the first place. We have come through the other side, we're still able to work together, and that's where the enjoyment comes from. It's been a lot of fun making this record." Read more at Nzherald.co.nz. | |

| BLACK SABBATH's Ozzy Osbourne Describes New Album As "Satanic Blues"; More Song Titles Revealed BLACK SABBATH have been recording their long-awaited reunion (minus Bill Ward) album at Malibu's Shangri-La Studio with producer Rick Rubin (SLAYER, METALLICA). Original members Ozzy Osbourne - vocals, Tony Iommi - guitar, and Geezer Butler - bass, along with session drummer drummer Brad Wilk (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE) are creating the group's first studio album - tentatively titled 13 - since 1978’s Never Say Die! In a new interview with David Browne from Rolling Stone, Osbourne describes the new album as "Satanic blues."
In a nod to their roots, tracks like 'End Of The Beginning' and 'Age Of Reason' stretch out to as long as eight minutes. "I don't know what's going on in the music world," Osbourne says. "My wife mentions bands to me and I don't know what the fuck she's talking about. We just do what we always did." "I wanted to make an album that stood alongside their first four albums," Rubin adds. "The first album wasn't a straightforward heavy metal record. You could hear the jazz influence, so that was the goal, and to capture that live interaction." Another new Sabbath song is the provocatively titled 'God Is Dead' takes an unexpected turn. "It starts off, 'God is dead,'" Osbourne says, before adding a bit wistfully, "but at the end it says, 'I don't believe that God is dead.'" Iommi also comments on the Bill Ward situation, when he announced last February that he wouldn't be participating over what he calls "contractual difficulties." "It was quite confusing," Iommi says. "We wanted him involved, but it was just getting too hard." Adds Osborne: "You can't go, 'Well, I don't like it.' You get off your ass and get your shit together. The life of a bohemian rock star is fucking long over." Read the entire interview at Rolling Stone. 13 is set to be mixed this month. A North American tour is set for July and August, then the band will hit South America in October and Europe in November and December. In advance of the album’s release, Black Sabbath will head to New Zealand, Australia and Japan for a series of live performances. Additional tour plans will be revealed in the coming months. | BLACK SABBATH - Could 13 Be Billboard's 1000th #1 Album? Billboard.com is reporting: Depending on how and what you count, BLACK SABBATH's No. 1 Billboard 200 album 13, which debuted atop the tally last week, could be considered the 1,000th leader in album chart history. Or not. Let us explain. Billboard has been charting the week's top-selling albums each week since March 24, 1956 (beginning with HARRY BELAFONTE's Belafonte). However, the first overall album chart actually appeared 11 years earlier, on March 24, 1945. The chart was published on an irregular basis until it became a weekly fixture. For our historical purposes, all feats and records for the Billboard 200 (e.g., THE BEATLES' record 19 No. 1s) date to March 24, 1956, when the tally became a weekly feature. From March 24, 1956 forward (through Black Sabbath's 13), 927 albums have hit No. 1. However, if one were to add up all the No. 1 albums from March 24, 1945 (beginning with the KING COLE TRIO's self-titled release), through 13, the total becomes a landmark 1,000 No. 1s. Almost.
