GIRLSCHOOL - Surviving My Friends: The Official Kelly Johnson Story E-Book Available The authorized memoir by
GIRLSCHOOL guitarist
Bernadette Jean "Kelly"
Johnson called Surviving My Friends: The Official Kelly Johnson Story,
is now available on e-book format at this location. Johnson passed away on July 15th, 2007 after fighting a six-year battle with cancer of the spine.
Johnson can be found on Girlschool's classic early '80s material:
Demolition (1980),
Hit and Run (1981),
Screaming Blue Murder (1982) and
Play Dirty (1983).
She left Girlschool in 1984 but returned to the ranks
in 1993 but exited the band once again in 2000 following the recordings
of Not That Innocent: 21st Anniversary, released in 2002.
According to Wikipedia, the fact she had this disease was not widely
known outside her close circle of friends and family. At Kelly’s
memorial, her friend and former bandmate Tracey Lamb read the eulogy she
had written for her:
“It doesn't shock or surprise me that there are so many of you here
today for
Kelly because
Kelly touched all of our hearts with her love,
friendship, her amazing persona and the way she inspired so many of us
to take up or continue to play music. She was a true rock star, her
agility on stage and when recording, her prolific song writing and
strong delivery in every performance will always be remembered."
