SAXON, MICHAEL SCHENKER To Headline Planet Rock's Steelhouse Festival Planet Rock's Steelhouse Festival returns this July for its third consecutive year and with its biggest lineup to date.
On the weekend of July 27th - 28th, the event will be headlined by
UK metal legends SAXON and guitar great MICHAEL SCHENKER (Temple Of Rock
& Lovedrive Reunion Tour). This is a national exclusive for Planet
Rock's Steelhouse Festival: this is the only UK festival date that these
artists will play this year. Joining them on the bill are rising bands
THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT, HEAVEN’S BASEMENT, BUFFALO SUMMER and
FIGHTING
WOLVES, with many more artists to be announced over coming weeks.
Saxon formed in 1976 in South Yorkshire and emerged as one of the
defining groups of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), the
scene that characterised metal into the 80s and encompasses other
notable British acts
IRON MAIDEN and
JUDAS PRIEST. Still led by original
vocalist
Biff Byford, Saxon have sold some 13 million albums worldwide,
and their catalogue includes three of the genre’s most iconic titles:
Wheels Of Steel, Strong Arm Of The Law and
Denim And Leather. On the 4th
of March they release their 20th album, Sacrifice.
Michael Schenker burst onto the international scene in 1972 as
guitarist for major German rock act SCORPIONS, gained near-legendary
status with seminal British metal outfit UFO, and his career continued
with
The Michael Schenker Group (MSG). This April he takes his
Temple Of
Rock on a 12-date UK tour and returns for his exclusive festival
appearance at Planet Rock's Steelhouse Festival in July, with a band
featuring former
Scorpions stars Herman Rarebell (drums) and
Francis
Buchholz (bass). Together they’ll perform the very best of
Schenker’s
work with the
Scorpions, UFO and
MSG.
Once again, this family-friendly festival will be sited at
Hafod-Y-Dafal Farm near Ebbw Vale, nestling in the beautiful Welsh
countryside of Gwent. Camping, free parking and other facilities

enter free when accompanied by an adult ticket holder. Weekend Passes
are available now, with an Early-Bird price of £50 for the first 500

This Welsh international classic rock festival continues to build on
the grassroots success of previous years. While being a stronghold for
rock and metal, this part of the country was rarely visited by major
artists in the genre, so the organisers aimed to provide a high-quality,
value-for-money music event in the area. The first Steelhouse Festival
was held in 2011, with an even more successful follow-up last year. Over
5000 fans have attended the event to enjoy established rock bands
including THE
QUIREBOYS, FEEDER and REEF and emerging acts such as
SAINT
JUDE, THE UNION and G
ENTLEMANS PISTOLS.This year the festival is set to grow even bigger, with bona-fide
legends
Saxon and Michael Schenker topping the bill, more exciting bands
to be announced, and now a partnership with Planet Rock, the UK’s
leading classic rock radio station. Planet Rock DJs will compere the
event on-stage, and the festival will be promoted on-air with a
