ALICE COOPER will compete in the Omega Dubai Desert
Classic Challenge Match on Tuesday at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort.
A self-confessed golf addict,
Cooper will be paired with fellow
American,
Mark O’Meara, in the Challenge Match, which will also feature
the likes of Lee Westwood, Thomas Bjorn, Jeev Milkha Singh, Rafael
Cabrera-Bello and Henrik Stenson as they showcase their svelte swing
during the nine-hole competition, starting at 3pm.
“I love the game of golf. It’s never a bad day for me on the golf
course,” Cooper said in a release. “I’ve hit bad shots, but I’ve never
thrown a club. I play a different course every single day.”
Cooper will also feature in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic Pro Am on Wednesday.
In a tell-all memoir,
Alice Cooper, Golf Monster, published in 2007,
the metal entertainer wrote about how he fell in love with the game of
golf, how he dried out at a sanitarium back in the late ’70s, and how he
put the last nails in his addiction’s coffin by getting up daily at 7am
to play 36 holes.
“If there is one rock star who takes his golf seriously, I think it
is Alice Cooper. His presence will help to create an electric atmosphere
buzzing at the Challenge Match,” said Mohammad Juma Buamaim, vice
chairman and CEO of Golf in Dubai. “Alice Cooper is an inspiration to
all those who want to kick their bad habits and live a healthy
lifestyle. We are delighted to have him in the field and look forward to
seeing him entertain the fans.
“The Challenge Match is a fun-filled affair that provides fans with
an opportunity to see the game’s biggest stars, along with Alice Cooper,
up close and personal. The idea is to provide first-class
entertainment. Cameras are allowed and there are no restrictions.
