LED ZEPPELIN's John Paul Jones Dispels Myth About 'Black Dog' - "I Wrote The Riff On The Back Of A Train Ticket"
Australia's Triple M will be airing a LED ZEPPELIN special this weekend hosted by Lee Simon who travelled to London recently to chat with the band. When he asked bassist John Paul Jones to dispel the myth about 'Black Dog' being written with funny time signatures so nobody would be able to cover it he responded as follows:
"Yeah, that's a myth," he laughed. "Basically, that's kind of the way I think sometimes [with] those riffs. I actually wrote it in rehearsal from Jimmy's house on the train. My dad was a musician and he showed me a way of writing down notation on anything. And so I wrote the riff to 'Black Dog' on the back of a train ticket which I unfortunately don't have."
Lee Simon's Led Zeppelin Special air-times:
- Triple M Melbourne 105.1 FM - Saturday, November 17 Midday
- Triple M Sydney 104.9 FM - Sunday, November 18 4pm
