MAGNUM Singer Bob Catley On New Album - "There’s Lots Of Flavours; Some Heavy, Some Dark, Some Lighter, Uplifting"In a new interview with Rok Podgrajšek from Therocktologist.com,
MAGNUM singer
Bob Catley talks about the band's upcoming studio album,
On The 13th Day, due out via Steamhammer / SPV on September 19th in
Scandinavia, September 21st in Germany, September 24th in Europe and
September 25th in the US/Canada.
"It's a really up-tempo album," says Catley, "which doesn't slow
down until track eight. There's also a couple of lovely ballads on
there. 'All The Dreamers' is about all the fans coming to a gig, your
faithful followers.
'Didn't Like You Anyway' is quite a stomping affair. It's about
people you can't stand, people you've put into a position of power, like
politicians, people in the banking system, basically about people who
take liberties with their power. They still get bonuses regardless of
what they do.
'On the 13th Day' is another up-tempo song. It's about what the hell
is going to happen on the 13th day. The number 13 is an unlucky, evil,
ominous and foreboding number and reflects the uncertainty of what’s
going to happen in the world on the 13th day. It’s a great rock track.
'So Let it Rain' is a real sing-along foot tapper. It’s about being able
to make your own decisions in life. If I can’t, that’s my own fault. It
doesn’t matter what the world throws at me, I can handle it.
'Dance of the Black Tattoo' is an evil-sounding, heavy rock track.
The black tattoo is a drum beat, drum roll on a snare drum. It’s the
lines of soldiers advancing unto the enemy. It’s about dying in battle.
It’s almost our heavy metal song.
'Shadow Town' is a song that I could hear BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN singing.
It’s a straightforward thing, but it has a serious message. A lot of
the shops can’t compete with Internet any longer. Where there used to be
shops, now there are just empty spaces.
So, there’s lots of flavours on the album – some heavy, some dark,
some lighter, uplifting, etc. It’s got all the emotions that Tony
usually puts into his songs. That’s why I love singing his songs so
much. As far as I’m concerned, it’s another great Magnum album."
