Robin Beck (born November 7, 1954, Brooklyn, New York) is an American singer. She topped the singles chart in the UK in 1988,[1] and Germany in 1989 with her single "First Time", which had come to the public's attention via its use in a Coca-Cola commercial.

Prior to this achievement, she had spent time as a backing singer, supporting the efforts of Melissa Manchester, Chaka Khan, and Leo Sayer. She also sang on radio jingles for Jam Creative Productions, in particular "the ultimate one" for BBC Radio One in the UK.[2][3] Her first album was released in 1979, and featured Irene Cara and Luther Vandross on backing vocals.[4] However, her subsequent debut album's songs failed to achieve commercial success in the United Kingdom, although it later spawned "Save Up All Your Tears" which hit the Top 10 in Germany.

Her major hit coincided with a unique chart confluence; after waiting thirty-five years for the first instance of three consecutive female vocalists at the top of the UK Singles Chart, she completed the second such occurrence in under a year. The first sequence was Belinda Carlisle, Tiffany and Kylie Minogue in 1988; the second threesome consisted of Whitney Houston, Enya and Robin Beck. She qualifies as a one-hit wonder in the UK, as "First Time" is her only single to reach their chart.[1] This is not the case in Germany, where "Save Up All Your Tears" reached number 10, and she had at least three other chart singles. The German success of "First Time" won Beck a 1990 RSH Gold award,[5] given annually by a German radio station since 1988 on the basis of major regional airplay success.[6]

Her album Trouble Or Nothin' was produced by Desmond Child and featured songs by Child, Diane Warren, Holly Knight, Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg. Despite their track record of success in the US, Beck's material did not find success. The song, "Hide Your Heart", charted in both the US and the UK as a single by KISS the same year as Beck's version was released. It was also recorded that year by Ace Frehley and Molly Hatchet, and was the title track of Bonnie Tyler's album of the previous year. Two other songs from the Beck album were released as singles by Tyler — "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)" (1986) and "Save Up All Your Tears" (1988) — and one by John Waite, "Don't Lose Any Sleep" (1987). Despite the songwriters' hit track records, none of those songs were major hits in the US in any of their versions. "A Crazy World Like This", co-written by Neil Giraldo, had been an album cut for Pat Benatar.

Beck went on to record further solo work with noted writers, which was best received in Germany, and continued to do guest vocal spots on other artists' albums, including a duet with Stan Bush.[7] After a hiatus, she returned in 2003 with her first album in nine years, and has followed that up with a new album every couple of years since.

Robin and her husband James Christian sang a duet on the song "Easy's Getting Harder" on Tommy Denander's 3rd Radioactive album "Taken" in 2005.

In 2006, the Swedish dance outfit Sunblock sampled "First Time" for their dance track "First Time". Beck could be seen performing this song, which was released on the 21 May, and reached number 9 in the UK Singles Chart. 2007 saw the release of Livin' On a Dream.[8]

Her album Trouble Or Nothing - 20th Anniversary Edition, was released in February 2009, which featured new recordings of original album tracks, plus four new songs co-written with Tommy Denander who also handles guitars on the whole album as well as co-producing the new tracks.

In 2009, she recorded three tracks as special guest on Impulsia's debut album Expressions: "Fly Away", "Alone" and "Seas To Cross".

Beck's most recent accomplishment is her album, The Great Escape.

In 2010, she also recorded a track as lead vocalist for the debut album of the Italian project Shining Line.

In 2011 she recorded vocals for British NWOBHM band Saracens album Marilyn depicting the life of Marilyn Monroe. It was released in September 2011.[9]

In 2013 she will release her album Underneath. This was released 12th August 2013 in the UK and 15th August in Europe.

Robin Beck was interviewed most recently in 2013 by Paradise Rock.[10]

ROBIN BECK - First Time Is Forever

Robin Beck Robin_beck_2
1. Hello Robin, and welcome back in the music game. What were the reasons that made you come back in time where the music biz model is changing and the musicians are struggling to pay the bills and gather royalties from sales and merchandise?

I can't stay away from what makes me tick.  I did take 5 years off to raise my daughter when she  was born in 1997...  but since 2002 I have been working my way back and I finally feel that I am safe here.   It's not only about money and bills it's also about passion and enjoyment.  I now have my own label and it's been enlightening to me how difficult it really is to move a record.  It is hard to recover your royalties from sales, but I've learned how to do that pretty well now so it's all good.

2. What do you want to contribute in the music scene with your new album, actually what do you want to say with this album?

I'm making good music and that's what I hope to convey!  I pass along with the music my devotion to the art and my commitment to my life's work.  I hope that people embrace and get something out of it.  There's not deep deep message that I'm trying to deliver... just doing what I love and if the fans dig it too then i'm a happy girl.

3.  There are many guest musicians in this album and a duet with J.L. Turner, could you give us all the details about this album?

I did invite JLT to sing with me on this record.  We've been friends for ages and worked on tons of stuff back in the day.   I've always just loved his deep warm tones and power.  He's so passionate and a true rock n' roll star.  I wrote the song "That All Depends" with JLT in mind... It was so cool when he said yes to my request.  I knew we'd sound amazing together.
Tommy Denander is my writing partner and co producer and more than that, a true inspiration to me.  I can't see myself ever doing another album without him, and James Christian, well lucky for me he's my husband and producer....  we share the duet "Till The End Of Time"  The Elements are a great writing team from the UK that I met through the band that I'm managing, "Kane'd",  and the song that they contributed to this album "Baby I'm Not A Bitch is a gem.

4. While I was listening to your new album, realized that the "magic" is still there...How do you manage to release only albums full of quality instead of puting "fillers" inside just to have 10 tracks or so?

Thanks Billy, that's a great compliment that I will never get tired of hearing nor will I take it for granted.  I'm still growing and my team is getting stronger with every record.   I want my music to sound better and better with each release and I know that James and Tommy feel the same.  We keep striving!   We don't want to do filler and sometimes you may not even know what you have until you get this reaction.

5. Regardless of the pure quality in your albums, music media has characterized you as one hit wonder because of the success of "First Time" back in 80s. Why do you think that music media treated you in this way?

Cause I only had one #1 song and that's how it goes- lol.   It doesn't mean to me that they don't wish me well... The media has a job to report who's on top... it doesn't mean that I don't count... I'm just not front page news to them all the time.. and you know what??  It's cool.  I make the music for the fans that love what I do and the media reports that.
It's a different world now with radio vs. internet radio.  Media comes in all different forms now.  Facebook and Myspace... webzines and websites... links and targeting your audience. The fans can also tell me directly how they feel and I don't have to rely upon the media to tell me who likes me and who doesn't by reporting it.  Don't get me wrong... media is essential to an artists career, but it can never come between us.

Robin Beck Robin_beck_5

6. Would you like to repeat us the whole story about "First Time" single and Coca Cola advertisement?

I wouldn't throw it out of bed!  If it wasn't for that little ditty who knows?

7. When you released "Hide Your Heart", it seemed like Kiss had a parallel realease of the same song. What really happened?

I think the writers and the labels had a hay day with that song at that time.. there were 3-4 of us... I was the only one who didn't know it till it was too late.  I think Bonnie Tyler did it first, I had no clue!  Desmond Child gave it to me as an original that was supposed to have been uncovered.     I was kinda pissed off when I found out about it cause this was a very expensive record and I didn't know that I was doing covers... or sharing releases on the same song with anyone...but who can argue with Paul Stanley or anyone in Kiss.  They Rock and Paul wrote it anyway. Now.. Molly Hatchet and Ace Frely... that's another story.  I have no idea why they recorded that song.  It didn't suit either of them.

8. What happened after your second album when almost everyone lost your signals?

Good question!  Human Instinct then 'Can't Get Off".  We went too far soft, in a nutshell.  Great songs but none of them truly rocked.  I think that ever since "Trouble Or Nothing", I had to sit on a fence between Rock and Pop.  It's only my last few albums that I'm finally home.  This is what I do best and what I love to do most and that's why you get it, cause it's really me.
I can sing pretty much anything you put in front of me and make you believe it cause that's how much I love to sing and play... but that can present a problem for a label that wants to have a repeat performance of a #1 song like "First Time".  It was a great song and it held it's own... but trying to recreate that moment was what caused the loss of signal... Very clever way you put that question Billy.

9. Do you think that your new album can bring back the success for you?

Well... If I were Columbia Records YES!  But I'm only HMMMR and I have distribution through Sony as a small indie label.  You gotta have big bucks to push an album all the way to the top, but who knows?   Maybe some rogue radio guy will campion me and get it out there to the masses.  That can happen and does. It has the earmarks of being a Classic Rock Album, and in the right hands at the right time it could be a huge success world wide.

Robin Beck Robin_beck_4

10. How did James Christian, your husband, help you with your new album?

How didn't he help me is the question!    James is the best producer I've ever worked with.  I'm not just saying that cause he's my husband.... The music just keeps getting stronger.   We write together and sing together... it's hard not to learn something from him if you spend so much time together.   His skills are amazing.  His vocal producing is top notch.   It's because of him that I sound as good as I do... he never let's me get away with anything... he pushes me till I give up everything. I couldn't do it without him and wouldn't want to.

11. You own your own label and distribute your new album via Sony music. Do you think that indie effort has better potentiality to manage better sales of your new album?

Lately I have to say that having my own label has proven to be a positive move regarding sales and all.  But like I mentioned earlier... it takes a big machine to make bigger things.

12. Do you have any plans for a promo video or radio single from your new album?

Just call me the little Indie that could.  I am in the process of putting together potentially a live performance video and trying to pick the single to do it with.  I'll keep you posted about a radio single.

13. How easy or hard  are the family tasks along with your music activities?

Well, I'm a strong woman but it does get hard from time to time.... I want to tour but it's hard when you have a child.   She's my everything and comes first.  Thank god she lets me do my thing and supports me... now she's even singing with me on my records on the backgrounds.
That makes it a lot easier.

Please come visit me at my website www.robinbeckrocks.com and get in on the Mega Music Lottery.  Check it out and while your there please listen to the songs from "The Great Escape" .  I'm also a member of facebook can't wait to see  you all there.

Brooklyn girl Robin Beck is a household name to melodic fans around the world, Robin Beck Robin16especially since she blasted back with 2005′s “Do You Miss Me”. Since then Robin has released several albums, worked on a number of projects, and even started her own label. With her next album due out soon, and a whole host of shows in the pipeline, we had a little chat with the First Lady of melodic rock.
Hi Robin, thanks for doing this interview with us today.
You’re welcome Matthew.
Firstly, 2012 must have been a busy year for you, with Rock Meets Classic and Legends Voices of Rock. Were there any particular highlights or challenges for you in 2012, or indeed in your career as a whole?
Robin: I really did have a busy year and it was great fun. There were many highlights but I really must say that working with RMC and the artists on the tour were magical. Working and hanging with Jimi Jamison and Steve Lukather was like being at a comedy club non stop. We had such a great time together. Lots of laughs. I have not done a legends tour yet but anticipate that it will be a great experience as well. My tour was a great experience for me and I can’t wait to come back out again.
You’ve recently announced that the title of your upcoming album will be “Underneath”, can you tell us anything else about the album?
Robin: Hummm… It’s rockin’! Don’t want to give too much away. But soon I will have plenty to say. I will mention that it’s gonna be one of those you’ll just wanna play and play and play.
Your work and projects over the past shows quite varied styles, leaning towards different genre’s of music. But the title “Underneath” suggests we are going to be getting a look into the inner Robin on this album, are we maybe going to see more of the real you or a deeper view than ever before on “Underneath”?
Robin: This songs are universal… I feel that it’s more about what many would like to say but don’t know how to. They all have a point of view… but not necessarily a deeper insight to me.
How long was the writing and recording process for “Underneath”?
Robin: Well I didn’t actually write this one so I couldn’t say… but it only took me one listen to know that the song was perfect for me.
Do you have a favourite song on “Underneath”, or one of personal significance? Also is there a particular song on there that you cant wait to perform live?
Robin: Again… it’s just too soon to say. I have not recorded all of them yet we are still fine tuning. We’ll talk about it again in a month or so.
In October you performed at Firefest in Nottingham (home town of another famous Robin) what was your impression of the festival and UK crowds?f
Robin: It was great! It was like a reunion for me. The crowd was sensational.
Is there any chance of a return to the UK for more shows?
Robin: Without a doubt.
Are you currently working on a project?
Robin: Aside from my new album, I just finished the new James Christian solo album “Lay It All On Me” Coming out on Frontiers. The House Of Lords project is coming up next.
In 2009 you set up your own label, Her Majesty’s Music Room. Was that a difficult process, and how has it turned out?
Robin: Not so difficult just time consuming. It’s going great. It’s personally meant for my own product.
Thinking of you collaborations with James Christian, is there a different chemistry when writing/working with your husband compared to others, does that make the creative juices flow more freely? And have you ever considered a Robin Beck/House of Lords or Robin Beck/James Christian tour?
Robin: Yes, yes and yes! Oh Yes!!!
In 2011 you sang for an English band, Saracen, on an EP doing vocals from Marilyn Monroe’s point of view, depicting the life of Marilyn Monroe. Is it a different process when you are singing depicting someone else and did you do anything to get into Marilyn’s psyche beforehand?
Robin: Hey… I just sing my little heart out. I hoped to bring some Robin Beck Robin13personality to the music that would show the vulnerability that Marilyn possessed. It’s not really like acting… but still I had to emote.
We know we’ve got “Underneath” to look forward to, what else does 2013 have in store have for Robin Beck fans?
Robin: We are thinking about another European tour and of course we are coming to the UK.
Where did you have your first paying job as a singer?
Robin: That would be at “The Sweden House” in Daytona Beach Florida” It was a with a guitar player and we did standards.
Who is your favourite musician and inspiration?
Robin: Wow!! I just love all the greats! John Lennon, Steven Tyler, Janis Joplin and Queen… and there are so many great musicians that I would not know where to begin. All inspiring and always giving even long after they are gone. One day I’ll make a list but it could never be in any order anymore.
If you hadn’t become a singer, what would you have done instead?
Robin: I have no idea! Maybe A&R… but then I would be out of a job. I never dreamed of being anything else and still don’t want to.
What is your favourite song, both yours and another artist? And have you ever heard a song and thought, “damn, I wish that was my song”?
Robin: I have too many favorites to say just one. I really don’t have a favorite one.
I’m going to ask this because you ask it to your interviewee’s… which side of the bed do you sleep on?
Robin: That’s funny… I sleep on the left at home and on the right on the road.
So Robin, you got married in 96? Can I ask, when did you first meet your husband (James Christian) and how did the question get popped?
Robin: I met him in 1995 through some good friends, John and Terry Pena out in L.A. The question was popped in bed.
Finally, is there anything else you’d like to say to your fans?
Robin: I would like to say thank you for supporting me and when I come out to tour please come see me and bring out all of your friends to have a good time. Please visit me on Facebook to say hi and don’t forget to visit my website to get the early release of the new album www.robinbeckrocks.com Love to all and so much more to come
Thanks for taking the time to talk to me Robin. All the best for the new album, and hopefully see you on tour!

Robin Beck Robin-beck-interview-pic-7

Interviewed by Thomas Schwarzkopf (Journalist/Writer/Contributor) Myglobalmind Webzine

After listening to her new fabulous album “Underneath” I just had to ask her some questions: the legendary Robin Beck! She is an icon in the melodic rock scene with a fantastic voice, but most of all she seems to be a very, very kind, helpful and open-minded person. Check out what she had to say about her new album, her relationship to husband James Christian and her thoughts about the early success with the hit single “First Time” in a very personal interview.

Myglobalmind: Hello Robin, I’m really happy that you have taken the time to talk to us, how are you doing?
Robin: Hi Thomas, things are good. Very busy these days touring and recording more with House Of Lords.
Myglobalmind: That’s great. I’d like to do this interview on a more personal level and I hope you feel comfortable with that, but first of all let us talk about your new album “Underneath”. It will hit the stores on August 12th in the UK. How excited are you? Or is this release just a “normal” thing for you?
Robin: I’m very excited. This album has so much spunk and promise. Can’t wait for it to get out there to the fans old and new.
Myglobalmind: I know that you have read my review already, but I have to say it again: congratulations to this amazing record. I really enjoyed it and I was very surprised about certain aspects, for example the freshness. What did you do to reinvent yourself and your sound?
Robin: Well I’ve always been a risk taker. When the songs got to me I was blinded to any past that I had embraced before and just focused on the now. It was an easy transition as it is still rock and melodic… only the twist is more modern and fresh.
Robin Beck Robin-beck-interview-pic-1
Myglobalmind: There were lots of songwriters involved this time. Why did you invite so many writers?
Robin: It was good timing. We had been going through some serious family problems with health and dealing with the loss of my husbands mother, very sad couple of years… we were obligated to tours and other projects. We just needed to take a step back and breath…. and when we did,  our prayers were answered… the Crush Boys Charlie Mason and Daniel Volpe and their entire crew, not to mention, Fiona, Glen Burtnik and my boys just pulled it all together. It was hard to resist since it was just amazing and timely music and we needed to turn our brains off to recharge. It worked out great… I will work with them again and again.
Myglobalmind: How much are you involved in the songwriting process?
Robin: Normally I am writing the lyrics and the melodies for our collaborations.
Myglobalmind: What is the album title all about? “Underneath” seems to be very personal. We’re you trying to show a different side of you most don’t know?
Robin: When I first heard the song “Underneath”, I knew instantly that the topic would be personal for me. I am kind of a tough cookie but a total softy on the inside. I think this topic is universal. We all feel misunderstood at one time or another. I’m no different from anyone else. I have my good sides and my bad. Hopefully everyone can see through me and into the sweet and loving person that I really am Underneath.
Myglobalmind: Let’s talk about some songs on the album. I’ll pick some tracks and you’ve hopefully some stories to tell about them. So what about: “Wrecking Ball”?
Robin: Wrecking Ball is about being there to love someone even if they are unlovable I think in the story she gives room to grow and lets him push her away… but she stands strong and he’s got her no matter what. She feels that he is lucky that she’s that way or he may have no one. This is a declaration of strong commitment. (laughs)
Myglobalmind: … :Catfight”
Robin: Everyone has had a moment like this in their life. Someone is threatening to you – perhaps another man or a woman seems to be getting the attention of your boy/girlfriend. But you don’t expect it to be your best friend! So it’s really an all hell breaking lose song of anger and disappointment. Cat Fight! Step Off!!!
Robin Beck Robin-beck-interview-pic-4
Myglobalmind: … “Burning Me Down”
Robin: A very truthful love song about 2 people who simply can not live without each other even in hard times… they still look to each other for comfort. They are the definition of unconditional love in Burning Me Down.
Myglobalmind: … „”Sprain”
Robin: Sprain is an interesting way of saying you may have hurt me but you won’t kill me if you leave. But it’s also to me a song that shows how vulnerable a woman can be. She lets him have it in the chorus by telling him you’re nothing but a bump in road of love and you won’t ruin my day… but still she is hurt… you can read it that way as well.
Myglobalmind: So those were my favorites. Now I’ve to ask you about „”I Swear The Night“. You know, I hear lots of similarities between this song and Whitesnake’s classic “Here I Go Again”, so what do you think about that? Do you also hear this?
Robin: This song was written by Barry Jay. When I first heard it I didn’t hear that… as the version that was sent to me was anything but Rock. But now I do hear it a little bit in the beginning of the song only. It’s good thing in my opinion as it goes else where after, but also because I love Whitesnake and the association in song type.
Myglobalmind: Are there any plans for a world tour?
Robin: I’ve been doing more touring these days than in the past 15 years. I’m planning a double Bill with House Of Lords. This is in the making. I am also touring with Legends, voices of Rock… and then of course when my album takes off, and I hope it will there will be many more opportunities to do much more. Fingers are crossed … I love performing live and seeing the fans up close.
Myglobalmind: Now let’s get a bit more personal. I think most people know that James Christian is your husband, so are you inspired by each other when it comes to songwriting?
Robin: Absolutely! We are very inspired by each other. We have a very musical house hold. Always something going on. Music is everywhere and on every floor coming out of every door… We love working together and that makes it even more creative. James is the best producer I’ve ever worked with and I have worked with some of the best in the world. James just does it for me. His talent also rubs off on me so I am even more inspired to be creative.
Myglobalmind: Like you said: he produced your new record … and damn he lives with his biggest competitor under one roof … (laughs). His solo album comes out nearly at the same time as your newest effort. Was that planned?
Robin Beck Robin-beck-interview-pic-2
Robin: We help and support each other. The plan is to keep doing that.
Myglobalmind: I think is safe to say in my opinion, you’ve beaten your husband, – hopefully he can live with that, haha. I’m just kidding. You’ve done some duets together, but have you ever thought about doing an album just consisting of duets? Such a”Beck/Christian” thing? I wonder why Frontiers Records hasn’t got that idea already, because they are known for such studio projects.
Robin: That’s funny in deed… me beat James? I would love to take some of the credit but I will hand this to James here. He is he producer and he knows how to get it out of me. I have the talent but because he really understands how far I can go… there is no limit to how good or better I can be. But perhaps I should turn the tables and produce him (laughs) … no! Just kidding. So far as duets… we do think of doing it all the time. As soon as we can make some room from our busy lifes with our solo projects we just might do that. OK now with Frontiers… listen babe… I have my own label… can you even imagine if I handed in an album like UNDERNEATH to them… this is not what they do…. they are cookie cutter and never stray from their formula. I would imagine that I would have to go back to doing everything in the way that they see it…. I don’t get to be creative… and that’s not something I want to give away to anyone. Don’t get me wrong. Frontiers Rocks! I just don’t think they think of these things because they are not in the business of reaching everyone like I want to be. Respect! I do think Frontiers is a great label and hope they will love my album as listeners.
Myglobalmind: I read your daughter Liv was doing background vocals on that album? What does she think about the music business? Would she like to be part of it? I can imagine with those parents she could have an amazing voice!
Robin: She’s just turning 16. She sings her butt off. Liv is a natural. For the moment her heart is way into the Broadway Musical Theater. She has time to make up her mind, but man if ever there was a triple treat, she’s the one.
Myglobalmind: Let’s get back to where everything started: your breakthrough with the single”First Time”. What does this song still mean to you? Can’t you hear it anymore or will it always be something special to you?
Robin: This is the song that kick started my career. So I love it. It did get me tired once or twice when I was too young to appreciate it… but now I just love it all over again. It is ticket to ride. I will always be grateful since it gave me the opportunity to continue singing and writing the music I love.
Myglobalmind: I know, sadly you couldn’t repeat this big success with your following works, so what happened to you when the period of this big commercial success was over? I mean, I talked to former Europe guitarist Kee Marcello some months ago and he told me, that it was very hard for him to find himself back into normal life after the time with Europe was over and I think you might have had similar problems.
Robin Beck Robin-beck-interview-pic-3
Robin: It wasn’t like that for me. I’m a family person… when I got my first success I just embraced it. I never lost sight of who or where I came from… so I never felt like it was my only success. I continued to make albums and do other projects… always singing… and as long as I am singing I’m happy. I really had nothing pulling me down… if anything it lifted me up and made me appreciate it more and work even harder.
Myglobalmind: Good answer. By the way everybody is familiar with the grunge-wave and the ever changing scene in the music industry in the early 90′s, melodic rock was dead and so on … but that often sounds very superficial to me. Is it really that simple, or are there other circumstances which did not allow it to survive with this kind of music you were playing at the time?
Robin: Humm. Well, my opinion is that music will always be evolving. There are no generations that don’t change their music to what they get. It’s normal stuff… you just might want to be more open and try to listen to the younger musicians so you don’t lose your edge. I know it pissed a lot of pop and Rock artists off, but it is what it is.
Myglobalmind: I’ve gotta say I love melodic rock and metal and all sub-genres of it and of course all the old stuff from the 80′s and I’m fairly young only 25. When you had your biggest success I was still lying in the bed with diapers. So what do you think is so special about this genre that so many young and old bands still play this kind of music again in the present day? You can say it HAS survived Grunge and Rap and all that stuff. It’s very popular again and even younger people like me are loving it.
Robin: Magic! We believed in ourselves and we still do. We are the strongest generation in all ways that ever was. We are the generation that cultured Rock n’ Roll and it’s so real that you can not just blow it off. Everything stems from something… but it’s great to have the real thing in your hands. And in your ears. After a while you can hear the difference. The younger kids love it because they can not deny the energy that gets them so excited. So now they will reclaim it… take it back… and say it was always theirs… me me me. I just love it. Rock n’ Roll is here to stay… I know this because my daughter and all of her friends text it and tweet it all day long…. long live technology and the kids that will rule the world. Look out!
Myglobalmind: Let’s talk about the more beautiful things in life, for example your appearance.  Maybe you were asked this a hundred times before, but what do you do to look so young? I don’t want to say you are old, because you are always as old as you feel, you know. But I know lots of women out there, who would kill to look like you at your age. What’s your secret?
Robin: Thank you, Thomas. Maybe it’s that times have changed and we take better care of ourselves… or maybe it’s in the genes. I don’t do much more than enjoy life when I can and I take a positive attitude as much as possible. Plus I eat good and exercise a little. Not more. I think if you give love to and kindness to a lot of people and you can feel it back… it will keep you young as well. Having teens around you all the time doesn’t hurt either. I’m very immature that way… I want to play!
Myglobalmind: You’re also doing some guest appearances on different projects and I remember especially one song, which totally hit me:”Heat Of The Light” from Shining Line. You sang that song and it is such an amazing track. I’ve still get goosebumps all over me when I listen to this tune. Is there a story behind that one or behind recording it?
Robin Beck Robin-beck-interview-pic-5
Robin: When the song came to me it came with a sad introduction about the object of love being a beloved pet. I was so moved by that.. I love my little Romeo (poodle) I know that might sound weird to some people but the inspiration came from the love that the writer had for his pet who had passed. Great song!
Myglobalmind: How do you choose such projects. I can imagine you receive lots of requests for doing guest vocals.
Robin: I turn down a lot of projects. I do some to help close friends and others for the die hard musicians that come to me with great projects. There’s no formula as this is how I am… I want to be helpful where I can be. But if a project is really not for me, I stand back.
Myglobalmind: What would have become of you if you didn’t choose the path of being a musician?
Robin: I think that I might have been an A&R person… but after having my daughter Olivia, I would have been happy just to be her mother.
Myglobalmind: Have you some other hobbies, besides Rock’n'Roll? I think it is some kind of hobby for you and not just work, because you are doing this with so much passion, right?
Robin: I love to travel mainly. I never really had outside interests other than music… although until I dislocated my shoulder skiing, I used to love that.
Myglobalmind: Ok Robin, thank you for the conversation, I hope you had some much fun in answering my questions like I had asking them. I wish you all the best for the release of your new album!
Robin: Thank you Thomas… that was fun…. I want my fans to know that I am always trying to put out the best music I can. I take it very seriously and that I’m thinking of them. Without you I would not be able to stay in this arena. Stay with me and thank you for all of your support. Please stay in touch and always visit my website or facebook to find out where I am touring or what I’m up to at www.robinbeckrock.com Stay healthy and lots of Peace & Love to you all!
